I have sold Pennywort (Centella asiatica) for 23 years in my nursery in Wandandian in Australia. Over the years I got feedback from many of my customers telling me how it is helping them to relieve the pain and swelling of arthritis.
But all this didn't mean so much to me until I started to get the beginning of arthritis myself. Now I can talk from first hand experience:

Introduction
Pennywort "the arthritis herb"(Centella asiatica or formerly Hydrocotyle asiatica), Gotu Kola, Indian Ginseng, Indian Pennywort, Horse-hoof Grass, or Fo-ti-Tieng TM, (which is a registered trade name) is a low growing ground cover, with a leaf the size of up to a 50 cents Australian coin and a serrated edge. The plant has a long tap root and side shoots and the mature root form can resemble the human body, similarly to ginseng root. Some Herbalists regard Pennywort "the arthritis herb" as highly as ginseng and as having similar properties.
Pennywort "the arthritis herb" will grow in full sun, but will thrive in semi-shade and the leaves are much larger. Plants in open locations are often quite bitter to taste whereas the ones in more shelter are almost tasteless. The pale pink flowers are very small and inconspicuous between the leaves. It resembles the native violet and several weeds in appearance.

Herbalists have called Pennywort "the arthritis herb" the finest of all herb tonics. It appears, they say, to have no equal in the treatment of general debility and decline, digestion is strengthened and food better utilised and the process of overall metabolism increased. The Singhalese and the people of Asia have used this plant for hundreds of years, because they believe it contains remarkable longevity properties. Glucosamine
I (Elke) have used Pennywort since 1996 and it has helped me tremendously. You can read about my progress here
The problem is that you need it most in winter, that is when you get the worst arthritis pain. But pennywort doesn't grow so well in winter and the leafs shrivel up and have spots. For the past 3 years I have stoped using pennywort in winter and have replaced it with Glucosamine right through the winter and early spring until the pennywort grows again.
